Introduction – The Beat Goes On

History has turned the page, uh huh
The miniskirts the current thing, uh huh…

And men still keep on marching off to war
Electrically they keep a baseball score,,,,,

The cars keep going faster all the time
Bums still cry, "Hey buddy,
have you got a dime?"

La de da de de, la de da de da

Someone remarked once that the only things of cultural significance from the United States after World War Two has come from the West Coast. Growing up in the 50’s and 60’s, I would have to agree as my generation was weaned on commercial TV as opposed to the youth today on the internet and social media. My peer group was influenced to a large extent by the car culture and music groups from the West Coast. Growing up in suburban Chicago area during the late 60’s, every guy I knew wanted a Mustang, Camaro, or GTO.

In the 60’s America was at its zenith. We put the man on the moon. Jobs were plentiful. America made the coolest cars, The Corvette and Shelby Cobra were instant legends. The automobile represented status, modernism, freedom and rebellion not economical transportation on a planet with dwindling resources. Hollywood icons James Dean, Steve McQueen and Paul Neumann were avid racing enthusiasts.

This magazine is devoted to this car culture for the rebels and auto enthusiasts of the 21st century who want to apply their driving skills on America’s race tracks.
